Dr. Munro is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Chair of the FIGO Menstrual Disorders Committee, Co-Chair of the SEUD Abnormal Uterine Bleeding Task Force and Section Head of F1000Prime Faculty for Menstrual Disorders and Abnormal Uterine Bleeding. He received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario Canada, his obstetrics and gynecological resident training at Western and the University of British Columbia, and training in Gynecologic Oncology at the Cancer Control Agency of British Columbia. He is certified by both the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. From 2005 to 2018 he was Assistant Chief of Service or Director of Gynecologic Services at Kaiser Permanente’s Los Angeles Medical Center. Dr. Munro’s clinical and research interests are oriented to the physical, medical, and minimally invasive approaches to gynecological disorders of the uterus and adnexae with a special focus on the problem of abnormal uterine bleeding in the reproductive years including investigation and medical and procedural interventions. He also has expertise in the bioeffects of radiofrequency electricity on tissue and conducts research in the realm of surgical education. In this regard he is the Principal Investigator in a multicenter collaboration amongst the AAGL, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the Council on Resident Education for Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) that has designed and is evaluating simulation training and testing in the specialty(Link). He is the current Chair of the FIGO Menstrual Disorders Committee (MDC), which he helped cofound with Professors Hilary Critchley and Ian Fraser. The MDC has been responsible for the development and publication of the two FIGO AUB systems and is currently developing and validating a subclassification system for adenomyosis. He has published more than 110 papers in the peer reviewed literature, over 30 chapters, and five books including Abnormal Uterine Bleeding, and, together with Professor Victor Gomel, Reproductive and Reconstructive Surgery in Gynecology, recently published in January 2019. Dr. Munro is also on the editorial board or a frequent reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed specialty journals.
